Hi...I...I realize its been quite some time since my last post, but a lot has happened. I...I finally calmed my nerves, and I feel ready enough to share my findings.
I was on the hunt for information on Candle Cove, regardless of the lack of people who have found this blog...
I found myself driving down a neighborhood road, and I found a garage sale. I'm not sure why I even bothered to look, but I'm somewhat glad I did.
In one box were multiple VHS tapes. Some were labeled Candle Cove. I was surprised by their condition. Very good for something so old. No scratches, just a few layers of dust. I asked how much, and she gave them to me for free, as she claimed that she needed to get rid of them anyway, and nobody had really been visiting. I thanked her and brought the tapes.
I was both scared, as well as excited. I've read the stories and knew there was always a possibility, but I never really believed them. I wish I did.
When I got home, I popped them in my VHS player, notepad and pen ready, and began to watch.
The first tape consisted of two episodes. "Welcome to Our Happy Ship" and "Percy Plays Piano", the first two in the series.
The episode started out normally, as any children show would. The intro showed The Laughingstock sailing across the sea, as merry calliope music played. I smiled, as it brought back vauge memories of my childhood.
The show started off with Janice sitting down...crying. A friend, who I know to be called Melrose, was shouting cruel and rather vulgar things at her. "Jaydee, you broke the damn doll you stupid bitch!" Melrose shouted.
I was taken aback by what she said. Who would put THIS in a children's show? Regardless, I pressed on only to hear more disturbing things being said. Apparently, Melrose is Janice's sister. She tells Janice that their father hate's her, and that its all her fault that their mother died. very unusual for any children's show.
In her sorrow, Janice crawls into a doghouse, and opens her eyes to see herself surrounded by water. she splashes about, flailing her arms and crying for help. From the water emerges The Laughingstock, who with the help of Pirate Percy is pulled aboard.
Percy was kind to Janice, trying to help her stop crying. This, wasn't too unusual, until a single two lines of dialogue are said.
Janice: I want to go home...
Pirate Percy: This is your home now, lassie.
This, for some reason disturbed me. It seemed very out of place, but regardless, I pressed on.
The show ran rather smoothly, ending with Janice accepting her new life on The Laughingstock and a live segment of her greeting the audience.
It was rather late, so I went to bed.
I was plagued by nightmares. I...I'd rather not talk about it...
I need to calm down for now, but I think I'll watch episode two tomorrow....
I just...I can't help but feel uneasy about this whole experience...
